No Device Evenings

A few weeks ago, I noticed how in the evenings at one point or another, all 4 of us were sitting on the couch, next to each other but we were just on our devices. I don’t have anything against screens, I just want them to be used for productivity more.

I decided to devise a little experiment where 2 evenings during the week, all of us have to put away our devices and stay away from the TV. Calls and messages are still attended to but we can’t play games etc on them.

There are some exceptions to the rule. If you are using the device to watch a YouTube video of how to play the piano, that’s perfectly fine. You just can’t consume content for entertainment but can surely use the devices as an aid to be productive.

This has worked well for us so far and breaks the pattern. I encourage my kids to be producers rather than consumers so during these evenings they are very productive and learn new things.
